Fanatics, a dominant force in sports merchandise and collectibles, has solidified its position by securing an exclusive memorabilia partnership with rising baseball star Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates. This strategic alliance places Skenes alongside an elite roster of athletes, underscoring Fanatics’ commitment to leveraging top-tier talent to expand its presence in the memorabilia market. The agreement designates Fanatics as the sole distributor for Skenes’ comprehensive collection of officially licensed items, which will encompass autographed and inscribed baseballs, jerseys, hats, photographs, and game-used equipment from his burgeoning career.

Expanding the Collectibles Ecosystem

The collaboration extends to Fanatics Authentic’s innovative “Under Wraps” product line. This initiative introduces a mystery format for officially licensed memorabilia, offering fans a unique acquisition experience. Additionally, the “Emanate” line within “Under Wraps” will feature signed photographs, with distinct color variations denoting the limited-edition status and rarity of each piece, thereby enhancing collector engagement and the perceived value of the items. Fanatics’ executive vice president, Victor Shaffer, highlighted the synergistic nature of the partnership, emphasizing Skenes’ rapid ascent as a prominent figure in baseball and the alignment of his caliber with Fanatics’ exclusive offerings designed to commemorate his achievements for fans and collectors alike.

A Strategic Move in Athlete Endorsements

Paul Skenes joins a distinguished group of athletes who have previously entered into exclusive memorabilia agreements with Fanatics. This cohort includes prominent names such as Tom Brady, Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper, Auston Matthews, Victor Wembanyama, Harry Kane, Sabrina Ionescu, and JuJu Watkins, among others. Skenes, the first overall selection in the 2023 MLB Draft, has quickly established himself as one of the league’s premier pitchers following his debut in May 2024. His early career achievements include being the only pitcher, and one of only five MLB players in history, to start in the All-Star Game in each of his first two seasons.

Skenes’ statistical performance further illustrates his impact. Last season, he posted a 1.96 ERA over 23 starts (133.0 innings) for the Pirates, earning him the National League Rookie of the Year award. As of recent performance metrics, Skenes is a leading contender for the National League Cy Young Award, topping the league in several key pitching categories including ERA (2.03), starts (31), strikeouts (209), and ERA+ (210). His Wins Above Replacement (WAR) metric of 7.2 ranks highest among pitchers in MLB and second overall, trailing only Aaron Judge (8.4). These accolades solidify his marketability and the potential long-term value of his associated memorabilia.
